Land Area 22 hectares
NARETHA VINEYARD PROPERTY - 22HA & ADDITIONAL 8HA (CROWN LEASE) - TOTAL 75AC
Naretha Vineyard is a 22 hectare property with an additional 8 hectare crown lease [total of 75 acres], located in the upper reaches of the pristine Murray River valley. The property is on Murray River Road approximately 4 kilometres west of the Township of Walwa in the North East Region of Victoria.
The land area is approximately 22 hectares (ha) with almost 15 ha under wine grapes. The front of the property (around 12 ha) is flat with good access and very fertile soils rising to the west on a shale reef with great exposure to rising sun.
This region is blessed with an average annual rainfall of 900mm and the vineyard has largely survived the worst as a dry land operation. The property has a bore with a 60 megalitre water licence and the ability to be operated as an irrigated property with full drip irrigation in place most gravity feed from a 20 meg litre dam.
There are a number of buildings on the property including: three bedroom house with large tandem garage and a small garden shed, a large portal frame shed that houses a workshop, beautiful function area, gallery and room for a large cool room. A large partially insulated shed that is currently used for wine storage and the production area.
The vineyard has five grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon (approximately 3.5 ha), Shiraz (approximately 4 ha), Merlot (approximately 3.5 ha), Chardonnay (approximately 3 ha) and Riesling (approximately 1.5 ha).
Part of the vision included building a cellar door, kitchen and function area and establishing the labels, particularly the Jack Riley label that allows us to key into the tourism theme for the area.
